An Evening of Beatles Music

EUMETSAT Rock/Jazz Groups, Classic Music Ensemble and ECHOS choir present a programme featuring Beatles music.

The “White Horse Inn” („Im weißen Rössl“) played at the Goldnen Löwen in Arheilgen

„Im weißen Rössl“ is a musical comedy set in an idyllic region of the Upper Austria. Sometimes classified as an operetta, the show enjoyed huge successes both on Broadway and in the West End (651 performances at the Coliseum starting 8 April 1931) and was filmed several times. Today, „Im weißen Rössl“ is mainly remembered for its songs, many of which have become popular classics.

Musikmesse Frankfurt (24.-27. March 2010)

Frankfurt Musikmesse 2010 

The international Musikmesse Frankfurt is the world's biggest international trade fair for musical instruments, music software, computer hardware, sheet music and accessories. It is a magnet for the music trade, for the industry and craftspeople, for music publishers, music teachers and the event business, and has successfully been exercising this power of attraction non-stop for the last 25 years. 

 

Chamber Music Concert in the Jagdschloss Bickenbach (20 February 2010 at 19:30)

 Adelphikon-Ensemble

The Adelphikon-Ensemble will be performing music by Haydn, Mozart, Brahms and others. Among the players:  Cäcilia Krämer (Oboe/Englisch Horn), already known to us for her performance at the IYA2009 Concert at EUMETSAT last summer.

 

Concert by the Orchestra of TU Darmstadt (EUMETSAT, Wednesday 3 February at 19:30)

The TU Orchestra have played at EUMETSAT several times in the past and every time audiences have been impressed by their performance. This time they will be supported by visiting musicians from the University of Saratov, Russia.

The programme is:

Tickets are free of charge - a collection will be held at the end of the concert - but please request tickets and provide the names of any family members or guests who will be attending. The number of tickets is limited and they will be allocated on a first come first served basis.

Big Band Concert in EUMETSAT, Thursday 22 October at 19:00

Once again we have been able to arrange a concert by the Hessen Youth Jazz Orchestra (Landes Jugend Jazz Orchester Hessen).  This is one of the leading bands of its type in Germany and consists of players and vocalists of outstanding ability but still in their teens and early 20s.  The band has toured the world and has played to audiences of many thousands, so we are priveleged that they will play here. If you need convincing how enjoyable the concert will be ask anyone who came to the concerts in 2007 or 2005.

The concert will feature also one of Europe's top soloists, Jiggs Whigham, who as well as being a renowned solo trombonist, is also conductor of the BBC Big Band and Artistic Director of the Berlin Jazz Orchestra.

"Crazy Night", Saturday 19th September, 20:00 in ESOC

The ESOC Chorus has just returned after the summer break. To mark the occasion, everyone at ESOC and EUMETSAT is invited to meet the Chorus over a drink and enjoy a short concert of light-hearted music by Jeanne and Jim (the former and present Chorus directors, Jim is also the EUMETSAT ECHOS choir director).

IYA2009 Classical Concert in EUMETSAT, Thursday 16 July at 20:00

As we celebrate the International Year of Astronomy 2009 when, 400 years ago, Galileo took his first glimpses through a telescope, the Joint EUMETSAT-ESOC Chamber Music Ensemble has prepared a special programme for an unique audio-visual experience with a live performance of works by Marcello, Mozart and Herschel (the 18th century German composer and astronomer, known for discovering the planet Uranus) played against a backdrop of planets and stars.

Darmstadt TU Orchestra Concert, Wednesday 25 February 

The Darmstadt TU Orchestra and Choir will be performing music by Ludwig van Beethoven on Wednesday, February 25th (Aschermittwoch) at19:30 in the Darmstadtium. The programme will include the 9th Symphony and the Missa Solemnis (Kyrie, Credo, Agnus Dei).

Ensemble Recherche in EUMETSAT, Sunday 15 February 

A concert of the "ensemble recherche" will take place at 11:00am on Sunday, 15 February 2009, in the EUMETSAT Foyer, organised by the "Freunde und Förderer des Internationalen Musikinstituts Darmstadt".

Hosting a concert of the Internationale Musikinstitut of Darmstadt has almost become a tradition and can be traced back to the close relationship between EUMETSAT and the institute. The first concert, "Von Klangwenden zu Wandklängen", took place in June 1996 and as the Director, Mr. Solf Schäfer, will retire soon, the upcoming concert might be the last to take place at EUMETSAT under his direction.

In parallel with the concert, a painting exhibition will display works by Ms. Barbara Bredow, a well-known local artist.

EUMETSAT employees are cordially invited to the concert and exhibition.

Christmas Carols Sing-Along on 17 December 2008, 16:30-17:30 

As every year the Ad-hoc Orchestra 'Santa Hornblow and the Gang' will be playing international Christmas Songs in the EUMETSAT foyer for everybody to sing-along followed by Gluehwein and biscuits sponsored by your SAC. 

 

 

"A Victorian Christmas", ESOC Chorus Concerts 11-12 December 2008 

The ESOC Chorus is again active this Christmas with another selection of beautiful music, with emphasis on the Victorian era of a century ago.

Both concerts are in their traditional format of a choral performance followed by carols in various languages and community singing with candlelight for the second part. The experience is a wonderful introduction to the Christmas season.  

These concerts are also special in that they mark the end of an era, with the departure of Jeanne Conard at the end of this Season. Jeanne has been the director of the ESOC Chorus since its founding in 1989.

 

Although the Chorus will continue under the leadership of Jim Schar, we hope as many of you as possible will want to come and support the Chorus on what is sure to be a very emotional occasion.

Fuzzy Duck at the Riwwelmaddes - Saturday December 6th 2008

So you've done your duties for the day -  finished all the Saturday shopping, taken the kids to the EUMETSAT Christmas party and given them their Nikolaustag presents. So what better way to celebrate the end of a busy day than saying hello to the babysitter, goodnight to the children and heading down to the Riwwelmaddes for some hot food, cold beer and cool tunes! 

Yes, it's Fuzzy Duck's Christmas Quacker  from the Riwwelmaddes (Darmstadt) on Saturday, 6 December. Music starts around 21:00 but doors open earlier so that you can get your food (good curries!) and drinks (good Guinness!) in early! 


Fuzzy Duck at the An Sibin - Monday 24 November 2008

Fuzzy Duck will be playing at the An Sibin Newcomer Night  (well, they are new to the An Sibin!) on Monday 24 November.

They will start at around 21:00 but the doors will obviously be open earlier for those who want to enjoy a pint of Guinness or an all-day Irish breakfast! So come on down for a great night of music and fun!

Great Jazz Concert at Jagdhofkeller on Saturday 22 November 2008

Wilson de Oliveira (saxophone) feat. Joe Gallardo (trombone). CD Release concert "The Spirit of Candombe". This will be a great jazz / latin jazz concert with very good musicians. It will take place on Saturday 22 November at the Jagdhofkeller (Darmstadt), start time: 20:00 hrs. If you love jazz music you should not miss it...

Concert by the TU Orchestra and Choir – Darmstadt, 29th June 2008

The TU orchestra and choir are going to perform Rosamunde by Franz Schubert.

Dancing numbers will also be performed by members of the ballet of the Staatstheater.

The concert starts at 18:00 in the Regierungspräsidum's courtyard or in the Otto-Bernd-Halle (if the weather is bad).

Classical Concert in Eumetsat on Thursday, 6 March 2008 at 20:00

 

A classical concert will be given by EUMETSAT and ESOC employees and members of the SpaceOps 2008 Quintet that will perform also during the SpaceOps Conference in Heidelberg later in spring. The program of the concert includes, among others, music by W.A. Mozart and Enrique Granados. The concert will take place in the Eumetsat Atrium, starting at 20:00.

 Ad-Hoc Orchestra

It has become a tradition at EUMETSAT by now that the Ad-Hoc Orchestra 'Santa Hornblow and the Gang' plays Christmas Carols in the Entrance Hall for everybody to enjoy and sing-along. This year it will take place on Wednesday, 12 December at 16:30 in the entrance hall to tune in for next day's Christmas Party.
 
The sing-along will be followed as usual by Gluehwein and Christmas cookies - only for those who sing-along ;-)

P.S. The Ad-Hoc Orchestra is rehearsing during this time on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 17:30. If you can play an instrument, just come along now, so you can get ready to perform with us in time for the event. 

 

Fuzzy Duck at the Riwwelmaddes on Saturday 1 December

For the Niklaustag gig at the Riwwelmaddes there'll be the usual mixture of rock and pop covers - some old, some new, all borrowed and some blues - plus the usual chances to dance and sing along with the band.
Fuzzy Duck will start playing at round 20:30, but while you're waiting for them to play you can enjoy some of the good food and cold drinks that the Riww is famous for.

After our previous Content Management System was exploited to send out spam, we are back...mostly. The contact form and calendar have yet to be installed and the gallery needs to be rebuilt.  But we are working on it as quick as possible.

The Hessen Youth Jazz Orchestra in Concert at EUMETSAT, Friday 19 October

After the great success of the performance in 2005, SAC is organising again a jazz concert with the Hessen
Youth Jazz Orchestra (LJJOH). This year's concert will take place on Friday 19 October at 19:30 in the Eumetsat atrium.

Club members are also encouraged to join a small team of volunteers to help with the organisation. If you can spare a little time to help to make this year's concert another resounding success please, get in touch with Ed Adshead.

If you still have a clear head and a desire for more *free* entertainment following Fuzzy Duck, then on Monday May 1 you'll find the local German version of the Irish classics:

The Riwwelmaddes is "compact and bijou" but there's always some space for those who want to dance and tables for those who want to sit and enjoy the great curries and cold Guinness.

And don't forget, the first of May is a holiday so you don't need to go to bed at 10pm for work the next day!

 

 

John Downie at the An Sibin on Friday, 30 March

John Downie will be playing with the Three Amigos this Friday at the An Sibin. John is the instructor who organises the EUMETSAT music club's rock/blues session on Monday nights, so if you are thinking of joining the music club and are wondering what he's like, this Friday's your big chance. . .

We have a new server!

Our old host updated their server and it caused major problems for our CMS Software. (CMS = Content Managment System)  So I took the opportunity to move us to a new Host where the techs are friendly and fast.
